Big Time Expectations for a Big Time Player

This year’s senior class has been filled with a wide variety of athletically talented students. But when it comes to the hardwood, there is one player that sticks out in your mind.

Evan Kelley (10’) has made a name for himself over his past four years in high school. He is a physical specimen standing at 6’4’’ 180 pounds of pure manly man. Not to mention he has a devastating jumper and an unparalleled ability to drive the lane.

Evan was born and raised here in Norwalk and ever since he could remember he has had a basketball in his hand.

“I have been playing since I was five, I wasn’t the best ball handler but I have always been a good shooter,” said Kelley.

He started off playing Biddy Basketball, a league run by the city. Right away people could notice the spark he had on the court. Evan turned heads in high school as well. He caught the immediate attention of Coach Bobby Trimboli.

Trimboli said, “Right away I noticed the natural ability he had for the game.”

Kelley made varsity his freshmen year. Although he did not impact the team much, he did work very hard to see some playing time. By the time his sophomore year started, he finally hit his growth spurt and towered over students in the hallway. This was the year Kelley made his mark quickly becoming the most dominate player on the court. He had an excellent season and was the leading scorer on the team, something he is now accustomed to.

By his junior year he had matured physically and mentally. He reached his final height and had learned the game inside and out. Once again he was the teams leading scorer and one of the best players in the FCIAC.

Going into his senior season, the expectations could not have been higher for this outstanding player. Midway through the season he has blown away those outlooks. In the 2009 Players Choice Awards, a preview of the season to come, Kelley was awarded Best Shooter receiving 30% of the votes and was also up there for Best Overall Player. He is now the leading scorer in the FCIAC with 27 points per game.

With the pressures of college coming into play, Kelley is not worried. He is focusing on one thing at a time and wants to end his high school career on top.
