Every day we hear about someone being diagnosed with some kind of psychological disorder. Whether it be depression, ADD/ADHD, OCD, or anything else of the sort, someone always seems to have it. What I would like to know is, how can we all be so screwed up? How can almost all of us have something mentally wrong with us? My answer is, a lot of us do not.
In our day and age, it has become almost a trend for a kid or an adult to go to a therapist. While I do not disagree that many people might need someone to talk to, I do not believe that everyone who goes to a therapist has some kind of disease, yet that seems to be the case.
Several years ago, if a child was disruptive in class, he would get in trouble and “learn his lesson”, but now, if a child doesn’t pay attention he is sent to a therapist and diagnosed with ADD. It is ridiculous.
I personally have just started seeing a therapist, at my mother’s request. I know I do not have a mental disorder, otherwise I would have known by now. Yet, when I told her I get bored easily when doing work and move on to other things, she immediately asked if I get distracted easily and if it is a recurring problem.
Our world has become so obsessed with finding a reason for all of the faults, for blaming them on something we can’t control, like a psychological disorder. I am not saying that no one has them, because obviously people do. I am saying that we can not take every fault we do not like in ourselves and have someone tell us that we do those things or have those faults because of some sort of chemical imbalance.
If people just realized that we are human and we all have faults, then the realization that not every person in the world has a disorder will soon follow.

The NBA playoffs are here and things are getting intense. Sixteen teams are vying for a chance to win the championship and be crowned the best team in the NBA.
NHS students root for their teams, but unfortunately some of their teams do not make the playoffs. Kwazee Rice (’12), stated, “My favorite team is the New York Knicks because I grew up watching them and love how they play.” Unfortunately for Kwazee, the Knicks did not make it to the playoffs. This just shows how tough it is for a team to not make it in the playoffs.
The eight teams that made it have made the competition even harder. Derrick Paulk (’10), stated “I feel that the competition is good and my team could beat any team.”During the finals of the NBA playoffs, the team who won the Eastern Conference and the team who won the Western Conference face off to see who will win the championship. Rice explained, “The eastern conference will win because all the teams have defense and that will guide them to victory.”
On the other hand, Jamal Williams (’13) said, “The Western Conference will win because of players such as Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitski.”
As the finals start to begin on June 4th 2010, The Boston Celtics who won the Eastern Conference Finals and, The Los Angeles Lakers who won the Western
Conference finals are set to face off. Now, many people start to really tune in and watch their favorite teams play. When asked how often he watches basketball, Williams stated, “I watch basketball as often as I can when I’m not doing homework or chores.”
The NBA playoffs add a whole new meaning to sports. Paulk stated, “The playoffs are interesting, keep you in the game and are exciting to watch.”
