I am brown. A simple golden brown, a nice color no doubt but nothing special. Contrary to my own beliefs, many people are enamored with this skin tone. Something about this constant tan that came with my genes makes many people green with envy.
Not only have my peers envied my complexion but more and more people are attempting to copy it. Whether it is with tanning booths, tanning lotions, tanning sprays, or just lying out in the sun, people seem to be willing to go to any lengths to achieve that perfect golden brown. These various facts bring me to ask, what is pretty about being tan?
For many students college is the great deciding factor in how successful their life will be. In earlier times college was not a prerequisite for success, it was mainly for the wealthy or the intelligent, but now it seems the dominant idea is that college is the only way to get a good job in the future. For many students this means that now they must try harder, join clubs, play a sport, volunteer, and on top of all that have stellar grades. For slackers like myself the higher achievement listed above is simply not possible. I know that everyday we hear that if we put our mind to it we can do anything but I find that it is much better to know your limitations and I happen to know that overachievement is not an achievement I can achieve.
As I wander around this school occasionally my eyes glance downward at the ground. As they do this I cannot help but notice the amount of papers scattered across the ground. With a closer look I notice that they are almost all posters and or decorations that had previously been on the wall.
The average student probably gets more information about the events going on in the school from looking down at the ground, rather than looking up at the wall. We might as well give up on hanging up posters and just randomly scatter them across the floors.
To me it seems as though many students in Norwalk High School have a vendetta against anything hanging on the wall, as if those dastardly posters had killed their parents and these tortured souls have made it their mission to get revenge.
In a supportive partnership with the Norwalk community, our mission is to teach skills that will enable students to acquire, access, and apply information. The teachers will foster self-directed learning and good citizenship in a safe environment. All students will be held to high expectations, so they will be successful after graduation.
